2018 Junior Spring Season

Spring 2018 Boosters Information

Dear Boosters,

Well, we completed our first regatta and the team did well. The logistics of the regatta were challenging, to say the least, but many parents stepped in to save the day. Some were called to haul the boat trailer and to provide water to the racers. Many thanks to those Boosters who really stepped forward. Your help is greatly appreciated.  We always need parents to 'problem solve' at each regatta. No matter how well we plan, we are always dealing with some uncertainty. Your dedication to the team is so important.  You can literally save the day.

The next regatta is an important one.The Dogwood Junior Championship regatta in Oak Ridge, TN, is an established event that is in a beautiful part of the country. Please sign up and volunteer to help the team. Attached is a Sign Up Genius (SUG).  We are working to be sure that we plan for everything that we can possibly prepare for.   We'll be communicating more as the weekend nears. For additional information on the regatta itself, please check regattacentral.com.

SUG for Dogwood Junior Championship:

Please have a great week and we hope to see many of you in Oak Ridge!

Sincerely,  Marion Couch President Kelly Molloy Communications Chair

Dear Boosters:

In spite of endless rain and snow, spring is truly coming.  It is time to really begin planning for the IRC Junior Rowing Spring season.

We are writing to update you about upcoming events and to enlist your help. This is a busy month and we can’t do it without your help.  We apologize for the rather long email. Please be sure to read through to the end.

Here is what we all need to do:

  • By this Wednesday, please volunteer to help IRC with the Illinois Collegiate Rowing Invitational that will be this Sunday, April 22, 2018, in Farmer City, IL.  Regatta Central (www.regattacentral.com) is a great source of information about the regatta for you.  The team will be traveling in vans, not buses, for the one-day event.  We’ll bring one tent for shelter and will not bring the grill.  We’ll bring subs in a cooler for lunch.  We’ll send out a Sign-Up Genius (SUG) to use to sign up for what we need. We really need drivers for the van, by the way!  Coach Manny has asked for EIGHT van drivers.

  • The next weekend, April 27 – 29, 2018, is the Oak Ridge Dogwood Regatta in Oak Ridge, TN. This event takes place at Melton Lake, a lovely site. The trailer will be going with the team bus and we’ll need significant parental help to keep the team and coaches fed and dry. The team is staying at the Hampton Inn in Knoxville, TN (11340 Campbell Lakes Drive, Knoxville, TN 37934). Please use Google to find hotel rooms near the team hotel or in Oak Ridge. We recommend that you do this soon. Hotels were filling up when we checked recently. Right after the Illinois regatta, we’ll send out a SUG for volunteers and food donations for the Dogwood Regatta.

Please note that information about all of the regattas is available on the TeamSnap site. After signing in to the site, click on the name of your rower and a row of tabs will show up along the top of the page. Regattas are listed under “Schedule” and all current information on each of these is included under each event. The “notes” section under each event will include information about hotels, the sign-up genius, and any other necessary information. Side note: you can more easily sift through all of the events by choosing the "View Preferences" tab at the top of the Schedule page. Under "View Preferences," select the "Games Only" option and it will filter out all of the practices. Angelia Thorpe will be sending out an email with tips and tricks for using TeamSnap in an upcoming email.

  • Please save the date:  Saturday, May 12th for the IRC Senior Banquet. We will celebrate the whole team’s success and growth during the year, we have terrific seniors to honor and we will have a dinner starting at 7 PM with awards and gifts to follow. You won’t want to miss it!

Every year we ask the younger rowers to create photo boards for the senior rowers. There are a lot of seniors this year, so it will take lots of rowers to get the boards made--but it’s a fun group project!! We’ll let you know where the photo boards will be created shortly. Please bring scissors and/or cutting boards, fun stickers or paper for borders.

In order to create photo boards, we will need pictures! Please keep track of any photos you may have taken over the years.  We’ll be asking for them shortly.

Ed Couch will be collecting donations this weekend for the coaches’ gifts.  If you prefer to send him a check now so it’s one less thing to remember this weekend, please mail a check to him at:  5605 Sunset Lane, Indianapolis IN 46228. He will need all funds collected by the end of the day on Sunday May 6th.

Finally, it is time to find a new IRC Booster President, Vice President, and Treasurer.  After the spring season, all these roles will be vacant.  It will be so much easier to pass on hard-earned wisdom if volunteers step forward now.  Please consider supporting the Boosters by becoming an officer.  A big thank you to Angelia Thorpe for taking on the role of Communications Chair beginning in the fall season (and for already doing a ton of communications work through her organization of the new TeamSnap system!).
