Competitive Masters Rowing Program

The Indianapolis Rowing Center operates year round but the boathouse is only open during the rowing months (March-November).  On the water programs typically begin in April and will run through October.  According to USRowing, “A Master is a competitor who has attained or will attain the age of 21 during the current calendar year."

Practice Schedule 
Tuesday and Thursday 6:15-8pm, and Sunday 3-5pm.  Both sweep and sculling will be done at all practices.  Tuesday will primarily focus on technique and Thursday will primarily focus on race preparation.

Program Options:

Masters Sweep - competitive adult rowers focused on sweep rowing
Masters Sculling - competitive adult rowers focused on sculling
Masters Sweep and Sculling  - competitive adult rowers who enjoy both
Intro to Indoor Rowing - a NEW class intended for rowers interested in learning how to row and get in a great workout on the indoor rowing machine.  No experience necessary, open to all ages and skill levels.

Competitive Sweep Program

This program is for any rower interested in competing during the current calendar year in a sweep boat.  There are requirements to meet before joining the program. 

Sweep rowing will be the primary discipline of rowing at practice and regattas.  This does not mean sculling will not be an option.  Depending on number of rowers and interests, rowers can scull at practice and at regattas.

Competitive Sculling Program

This program is for any rower interested in competing during the current calendar year in a sculling boat.  There are requirements to meet before joining the program.  Sculling will be the primary discipline of rowing in practice and regattas.  

Competitive Sweep and Sculling Program

This program is for someone that wants to focus on both sweeping and sculling. 

Program Fees

There are expenses that are directly related to the following programs.  These include:

  • Coaches stipends·         
  • Gas for the coaches launch(es)·         
  • Insurance to cover the Rowing Center owned equipment being used·         
  • Equipment maintenance expenses to repair/maintain equipment being used·         
  • Depreciation of equipment, so that we can replace current equipment

As a result, there is a Program Fee associated with each program below.  
Regatta travel expenses are NOT included in the program fee.
