Open and AA Masters Rowing

Summer program 2009

May 27th– August 14th

Calling all Collegiate and Competitive Rowers!

 

Open and AA Masters Rowing Program (OAAR) welcomes experienced rowers who would like to continue training at a competitive level throughout the summer.  The OAAR program provides support for rowers’ competitive goals by providing coaching, training, equipment, and competition. 

 

OAAR  participants will compete and train in both sculling and sweep boats at regattas across the nation. Rowers should plan to attend the group competitions and are encouraged to discuss their training plans and goals with the coaches. OAAR Coaches have collegiate and or national team coaching experience.

Pre-season dates:

Saturday, May 9th— IRC ”Red V Black” Time trials.  In-town athletes should plan to row a 2k on the course for time.  Check in at 8 am, Heats at 9am. Contact Bernadette for your lane assignment and race time, or sign up her office door at the boathouse.

 

Monday May 18th— In town athletes meet at boathouse at 6pm for group training.

 

Calendar:

Tuesday, May 27th  6:30 am— First practice of the summer— rain or shine!  Meet at the IRC boathouse.  Note: you must enter the park through the 56th street entrance, as the 71 Street Gate will be locked.

IRC has shower facilities.

 

Practice Schedule:

6:30-8:30 PM  Monday

6:30-8:00 AM  Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

8am-Saturday

Off- Sunday

While OAAR aims to provide some flexibility for participants, a minimum commitment to the training plan and attendance at team practices must be honored in order to support the competitiveness of the team.

* Time standard must be met, either regatta will be attended.

 

Training plan:

The workouts will be posted in the boathouse weekly, and are based on the Wolverine Plan (Google Wolverine Plan for more info).  As the wolverine plan calls for personalized information, each athlete should familiarize him/ her-self with the plan and to bring a workout journal to practice each day.

 

Coxswains

Will be boated daily and are integral to the team’s success.  All equipment will be provided for coxswains, and coxswains should plan to race at all regattas.

 

Housing

There are a number of sub-lets available from Butler and University of Indianapolis, and IUPUI students. You may wish to check the school websites for ads.

On regattacentral.com  under “Clubs”  —- Indianapolis Rowing Center— sign up for 2009 Student—collegiate or recent grad membership. Cost is $150 for the coached summer program and includes all equipment usage. Entry fees and travel fees will be shared/ determined per event.

If you arrive in town prior to May 27th, you are welcome to train at the boathouse on your own schedule!  Masters sweep practice is Tuesday and Thursdays at 6:15PM.
