Our Fundraising Mission

The Indianapolis Rowing Center promotes the physical development and well-being of youth and adults from all economic and social backgrounds in the Indianapolis metropolitan community by providing rowing programs that emphasize healthy competition, teamwork, and personal achievement.

Why and How We Solicit Contributions

Indianapolis Rowing Center runs a variety of programs that today serve more than 300 high school students, college students, and residents of all ages. High school students from thirteen area high schools, as well as masters and college rowers compete in regattas throughout the Midwest. The Center conducts Learn-to-Row clinics during the summer, and provides outreach opportunities throughout the season for private camps, high-school summer education programs, and area business to experience rowing. It also hosts several regattas each year that draw contestants from across the United States and Canada.

The City of Indianapolis, through its parks department, provides the IRCs boathouse and helps maintain the grounds, the docks, and the IRCs 2,000 meter, internationally sanctioned race course. The Center pays for programs, an executive director, coaching fees, and equipment, including boats that range in cost from $3,500 for a training or recreational single to $30,000 and up for a competitive eight-oared racing shell. In addition to boats, and related equipment such as rigging, oars, and coxswain speaker systems, IRC provides launches and motors needed for coaching on the water, Concept II ergometers and weight training equipment for physical conditioning on land, trailers for transporting boats to regattas, and equipment necessary to run regional and national regattas. The Center also offers a limited number of scholarships to assist families or individuals of limited means.

To complete its mission, the Indianapolis Rowing Center needs volunteers and contributors, both on the individual and corporate level. Dues and fees alone are not sufficient to cover the cost of the Centers programs. If you would like more information, please click on this link, and a member of the Center will be happy to introduce you to, or reacquaint you with, the wonderful sport of rowing.

The IRC is qualified as a not-for-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. Contributions to such organizations are generally tax deductible. However, the IRC cannot provide advice about the deductibility of any particular contribution. Please consult a tax professional if you have questions.
